Music at First Presbyterian Church

Adult Choir

The Adult Choir, under the direction of David Nicol, rehearses Thursday evenings during the school year from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. in the choir room. It is open to all high school students and adults interested in participating in the tradition of singing praise to the glory of God. The choir offers their music in the 11:00 a.m. Sunday service from September through early June. Anthems presented range from standard liturgical music to spirituals to contemporary hymn arrangements and compositions. Special programs such as A Service of Lessons and Carols, Tenebrae service, the Glorias of Mozart, Vivaldi, and Rutter, and concerts with other community choirs have been a part of the choir’s legacy for many years. People who aren’t able to commit to singing with the choir full-time are invited to join rehearsals for these special concerts. For more information, please contact David Nicol through the church office, 610-933-8816.

Children’s Choir

The Children’s Choir meets in the choir room on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., following Presby Pizza Plus in Fellowship Hall. The children, ages 4 through middle school, offer their voices in praise in both the 8:30 and 11:00 a.m. services at regular intervals throughout the year. They have also joined with other youth in the church to present musicals, which have included “The First Action Heroes,” “The Christmas Chronicles,” and “Once Upon a Parable.” For more information, please contact David Nicol through the church office, 610-933-8816.

Handbell Choir

The Handbell Choir currently uses a three-octave set of bells on loan from the Baptist Church of Phoenixville and welcomes ringers from both congregations. The choir is open to anyone middle school age through adult interested in learning to ring. They play in worship services at the Presbyterian Church regularly and have participated in worship at the Baptist Church on an occasional Sunday and at the Good Friday community service. The Handbell Choir rehearsal is at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesdays during the school year. Please contact Barb Giebler through the church office, 610-933-8816, for more information.

Other Musical Opportunities

First Presbyterian Church has a tradition of producing church-wide musicals that involve all ages. These musicals have included “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” “Godspell,” and “Children of Eden” and provide an outreach to the community.
